Prestonpans Words

In June 2006 saw the opening of a brick mural. It was painted by 16 school children from St Gabriels School, Prestonpans, with the help of children's writer Linda Strachan and artist Andrew Crummy. The Project was organised by East Lothian Arts Co-ordinator Joanne Mawdslay.

The aim was to get the children to create poetry through the four themes of Coal, Salt, Pottery and Brick. Once the poems were created and selected, they were painted onto bricks found on the beach that had been worn away over many years with the ebb and flow of the tide. They were then placed at the entrance of the school and a black and white design placed around the bricks.
